Now on the places to see in Salem, Missouri would be the beautiful Dent County Court House. This historical landmark, built in 1870 is on the National Register of Historical Places. (Antique Collecting, 2001) Here is a little history about the Dent County Court House is when the court house was first made it was a log courthouse in about 1851 or 1852 and was Dent County's first court house and was located on the Wingfield farm northeast of Salem, MO.
In 1852-53 another courthouse was built south of the present courthouse. The building measured about 20x40 ft and was built by J. T. Garvin for $800. Later it was burned during the civil war. The beautiful Victorian Courthouse -- which is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places -- was built in 1870 for $15,500. A. E. Dye came to Dent County to build this courthouse. His son, E. L. Dye, assisted him and was to become the leading builder in the county.
